While I was away in Texas, my family bought parakeets. My brothers (preferably Jake) and I had been reading about bird care and decided that even though we wanted a parrot, we should start with something cheaper, and easier to take care of for our first bird ... like a parakeet. Well, we decided to save up our money and maybe get one in a few months. Dad however, surprised us by taking the boys to the pet store and letting them pick out a couple (2 but "couple" sounds better). Jacob picked one (a green and yellow one he named Banana), and Cotter the other (a blue one he named Leodis). Anyway, when the boys first brought them home they wouldn't do anything, not step up on their fingers, or even want them to touch them. Slowly they're learning however, and now we are training them to feel comfortable upside down, and we whistle a tune for them to hear, who knows, maybe they'll copy us sometime!
